Leonard Bernstein was born on August 25, 1918 in Lawrence. The American arranger, composer and pianist is considered a great conductor of the 20th century. He conducted all of the world’s major orchestras and performed in the most important opera houses. His compositions are characterized by great passion and an extraordinary variety of forms. Leonard Bernstein’s most famous musical work is called “West Side Story”. He was also one of the most important music educators in the USA. His complete works include operettas, symphonies, operas and film scores. His stylistic expression was influenced by different styles of music, such as folk music, songs, chorale tunes, jazz and ballads.
